Hey! I'm Gavin and I program and develop games. The journey of a game developer is an adventure I've recently started; but one I've always been aspired for. Now I'd like to focus my art on bringing life to characters and centering gameplay through their eyes and world. Moreover, I want every game I design, to be owned by the main character. So I joined digital art 1 this spring to learn the techniques for representing those visuals I want my games to have. And here is a site dedicated to that side quest.

Artist Background?

Most of what I love and value in art pieces is the concept or idea behind them. And I'm inclined to image the world, background, or lifestyle inside those pieces. So I gravitate towards concept art, and love the medium of pen and pencil sketches.

Sketches are used in all my projects and are something I especially value for their simplicity and tangibility. It's fun to create something new and trace out the details, features, and functionalities of it as a concept artist. And theres a freedom in giving each detail its own purpose to exist; where you begin to additionally design a whole ecosystem and world for the drawing to work in. 

For example, this tree on the left is grown specially to amp up lumber production while taking very little space. It lives in a town in the middle of the ocean and shipwrights cut off the top trunks for their craft. It takes inspiration from an ancient Japanese technique of tree pruning.
